Hey guys! Happy New Year!
Recently, I found myself losing a lot of my time on distractions like Facebook, Reddit, and YouTube. I realize that the problem wasn’t the existence of distractions. The problem was the lack of a clear goal that motivated me to not care about the distractions. Distractions became comfort pillows that I can sit on while my mind was feeling insecure due to not having a sense of direction.
I sat down on my desk and started setting up a time frame of 1 year and asked myself, “Who do I want to be in 1 year?” and realized that this wasn’t just going to be a simple, 1 sentence answer. For every different stage of my life, I’ll always have different answers to this question, but for this year, I came up with this goal:
“I want to mature and be a better man who can support himself and take care of his family.”
To go more specifically into details, I came up with a list of character traits that could further be more would make lead me to that goal.
Focused: Always stays aware of my goals and stays focused on achieving them. This rule repeats itself and will keep me on track.
Diligent: I want to work hard and efficiently at Riot.
Spiritual: I want to have a stronger relationship with my God.
Integral: I want to be unwavering to my values.
Intelligent: I want to read more and understand the world.
Kind: I want to empathize, be considerate, and be helpful.
Mentor: I want to help others reach their goals.
Healthy: I want to be both physically and mentally healthy.
Economical: I want to be in control of my income & savings.
Charismatic: I want to know how to converse and lead.
Funny: I want to learn how to tell jokes and make people smile.
Well Dressed: I want to dress better and feel more confident.
Outgoing: I want to be proactive in going out to try new things.
With these character traits in mind, I’ll be able to create quantifiable actions that I can do perform every day, such as keeping track of my budget or learn 1 new feature about a new Plug-in, that will help me achieve my goal of becoming a better man.
That’s it for today! I’ve still got to finish Witcher 3, so I’ll be doing that before I get back to work in January. See you soon!
